Bush’s Support Buoys Gallegly’s Campaign

Share

An endorsement from Vice President George Bush on Wednesday gave Rep. Elton Gallegly (R-Simi Valley) a boost in his bid for renomination to a second term.

“I know that you have earned the respect of your colleagues and the notice and accolades of those who observe the daily routine in our nation’s Capitol,” Bush said in a news release issued by Gallegly’s campaign. “I wholeheartedly endorse your reelection campaign.”

The vice president, who appears on his way to the GOP presidential nomination, normally does not get involved in primary battles involving other lawmakers. Gallegly had endorsed Bush last year and stumped for him in the New Hampshire and South Carolina presidential primaries earlier this year.

Gallegly faces a well-financed challenge in the June 7 primary from Sang Korman, a Newbury Park real estate developer and political newcomer. David Desko, a catering manager from Canoga Park, also is seeking the GOP nomination in the heavily Republican 21st District.
