A 68-year-old man was killed and two other patients suffered cardiac arrest when a technician in Camden, N.J., accidentally administered Lidocane, a painkiller or anesthetic drug, rather than Manitol, the drug that should have been used to increase the patients’ blood pressure during kidney dialysis, authorities said. Angelo Carillo of Pennsauken was one of three patients who went into cardiac arrest at the Kidney Dialysis and Transplant Center at Our Lady of Lourdes Medical Center. Medical personnel revived two of the victims, identified as a 77-year-old man and a 74-year-old woman. They were listed in satisfactory condition. Dialysis is a procedure that purifies the blood of patients suffering from diseased kidneys. No charges have been filed.
