‘Really Nice’ Weekend Lies Ahead, Weatherman Says

Put simply, the weather in the Los Angeles area this weekend should be “really nice.”

At least that’s the prediction of Dan Bowman, a meteorologist for WeatherData Inc., which provides forecasts for The Times.

Bowman says there could be a little morning fog and cloudiness, especially near the coast, but the sun should burn through well before noon and afternoon breezes should scrub skies sparkling clear.

High temperatures today, Saturday and Sunday should be comfortably warm, in the mid-70s to near 80, depending on where you live. Overnight lows will be on the chilly side, from the upper 40s to the lower 50s.

The afternoon winds, generated by circulation around a large high-pressure system moving into Idaho, could gust up to 30 m.p.h. in some areas, especially the deserts, mountains and below coastal canyons. That will be enough to chase away any leftover clouds and smog, but probably not enough to cause any damage, Bowman said. And it will remain dry.

The National Weather Service said the high-altitude jet stream that often funnels storm systems from the northern Pacific down to Southern California at this time of year is continuing to meander well to the north, and there’s no rain in sight.

That means travelers to often soggy Northern California will find fair skies and pleasantly warm temperatures there this weekend.
