Slippery Geographics
Enjoyed Dan Sullivan’s article on the “Oil City Symphony,” but he flunked in history and geography (“Can’t Get to the ‘Opera’? Try the ‘Symphony,’ ” April 3).
Oil City is about 70 miles north of Pittsburgh. Titusville, just north of Oil City, is where the oil industry began in this country. They’ve an oil industry hall of fame or some darn thing like that there. Didn’t he ever hear of Pennzoil? Texas and Oklahoma are late comers to the oil scene.
He sounds like a New Yorker who thinks the world ends West of the Hudson or a Californian who knows nothing of the wasteland East of Las Vegas.

Oil City, Pa., is the biggest American city by that name, and probably the most historical, but let us not forget Oil City in Oklahoma, Wisconsin, Vermont, Mississippi, Michigan, Louisiana and Kentucky.
