Cher-ed Experience

Share

Unlike ex-cover king Don Johnson, Cher hasn’t snagged the front of Muppet magazine. But her face--and sometimes a lot more--has been exposed just about everywhere else. Maybe she’ll win the Oscar and go into seclusion!

Latest to share the news on Cher: Hits magazine, which has a cover pic of her in studded black leather. “If you have to ask why Cher’s on our cover, you need a saliva test,” drools the mag, which sings about her newest LP, “We All Sleep Alone,” which is currently napping at No. 44 on the Billboard chart.

The Star dredged up a cover pic of Cher in her feathered-and-beaded Oscar duds of a few years back--with the screaming headline, “Cher on Her Men.” (Among the revelations re “Moonstruck” co-star Nicolas Cage: “You know, he’s got the most beautiful ice-blue eyes I’ve ever seen.”)

She’s an inset on the Redbook cover with the declaration, “I Want a Baby.” And she’s interviewed in Us (she’s pictured in chain mail get-up), with the cover teaser: “Will Cher Win?” (This interview is excerpted from Film Comment; see below.) Celebrity Plus (the cover) quotes her: “I’m not interested in being respectable. . . . Younger men turn me on.”

The Cher blitz kicked off last fall (around the time of “Witches of Eastwick” and “Suspect”) with stories in McCall’s (“Cher--Sensual, Sensitive, Seductive, Sensational”) and the New York Times magazine (“Cher’s Next Act”).

But it was “Moonstruck” that got editors Cher-stuck, beginning with a November Newsweek cover.

In January, she peered out from People (“Cher, the Ultimate Liberated Woman”), USA Weekend and L.A. magazine. For the latter, she was decked out in sexy chain mail top, black hip hugger pants, black suede boots and hefted a free weight. (For the mag’s “Annual Health and Beauty Guide.”)

February: Cover girl for Cosmo, New Woman (“rare interview”!), Premiere and Film Comment.

As for Muppet magazine, our query to the pub’s NYC offices prompted this response: “What a great idea! I wish I’d thought of it. I’m going to bring it up at our next Muppet board (meeting).”
