How Poll Was Conducted

Share

The Times/Orange County Poll was conducted by Mark Baldassare & Associates, an Irvine-based public opinion research firm, with field work by Discovery Research Group.

The survey of 600 Orange County residents was conducted March 23-26 during weekday evening hours and weekend days, using a random sample of listed and unlisted telephone numbers. An equal number of men and women were interviewed. All respondents were guaranteed anonymity.

The margin of error due to chance variations in the total sample is plus or minus 4% at the 95% confidence level. That means it is 95% certain that results are within four percentage points of what they would be if every Orange County resident were interviewed. The sampling error for subgroups is larger.

Sampling error is just one type of error to which opinion polls are subject. Results may also be affected by factors such as wording of questions, time of interview and survey design.
