A new bishop was chosen on the 12th ballot for the Episcopal Church diocese serving the San Joaquin Valley. The Rev. David Schofield of Inverness in Marin County was elected bishop coadjutor at a Diocesan Convention in Visalia. Schofield will succeed Bishop Victor Rivera, who plans to retire in January after having headed the 17,000-member diocese for two decades.
