Troop Visits

I have a suggestion for Pentagon officials. The next time they want to send a contingent of troops to some place like Honduras, hire a good travel agent. The Pentagon estimates the cost of sending 3,150 troops to Honduras for two weeks in late March will be between $5 million and $10 million. That’s between $1,600 and $3,200 per soldier.
For half that amount, any travel agent worth his or her visa could have arranged group-rate round-trip air fare, transportation to and from the airport, hotel accommodations, baggage handling, meals, and tips (based on double occupancy). Plus, a really good travel agent could find a flight that actually lands in the country so the troops wouldn’t have to parachute in.
