Local News in Brief : Part of Fairfax to Close
- Share via
A three-quarter-mile stretch of Fairfax Avenue near the Santa Monica Freeway will be closed for six months beginning next Monday as part of a street-widening project approved by the Los Angeles City Council.
The road will be closed between Sawyer Street and about 100 yards north of Saturn Street to all traffic, with the exception of residents who live along the stretch. Traffic, including buses, will be detoured to Crescent Heights Boulevard.
The $1.58-million Fairfax area project will widen the road by 10 to 16 feet and add a continuous left-turn lane. City officials said the improvements will help ease traffic congestion on the heavily traveled road, which serves as a link between the freeway and commercial areas to the north.
