In other Bangkok news, Elizabeth Taylor has acceded to Thai protesters’ demands not to take home a gibbon given her by traveling companion Malcolm Forbes because it was captured cruelly and is an endangered species, a U.S. Embassy spokesman said Wedneday. Thailand’s English-language daily the Nation said Forbes received a monkey and a gibbon, which are two separate species, from the staff of a luxury hotel here. Taylor instead gave both primates to hotel employees to raise as pets, the spokesman said. Pisit Na Patalung, head of Wildlife Fund Thailand, told Agence France-Presse that he had denied an indirect request from the couple to help in securing permission to export the gibbon.
