Local News in Brief : Deputy D.A. Named Municipal Court Judge
A 37-year-old deputy district attorney has been appointed judge in the Glendale Municipal Court, filling a seat that has been vacant for nine months, according to state officials.
Gov. George Deukmejian on Tuesday named Charles E. Horan of Glendale to the seat previously held by J. D. Smith, who was elevated to the Superior Court.
Horan said he expects to assume the seat next Tuesday. The annual salary for Municipal Court judges is $77,409.
Horan will join two other judges and two commissioners assigned to the Glendale court.
The new judge has served as a Los Angeles County deputy district attorney since 1981. He was assigned to the Glendale court until four years ago when he was transferred to his current position in the major narcotics and forfeiture division.
Horan received a degree in psychology from UCLA in 1973 and a doctorate in law from USC in 1976.
