Local News in Brief : San Fernando Wins OK to Build Reservoir
The city of San Fernando on Wednesday won the backing of a Los Angeles City Council panel to build a 2.4-million-gallon reservoir to supply water to an 86-acre commercial and industrial development at the old San Fernando Airport.
The $4-million reservoir, to be built at Foothill Boulevard and Hubbard Street, would replace a 100,000-gallon reservoir built on the property in the 1920s. San Fernando also operates a million-gallon reservoir at the site, according to a report by Los Angeles’ city administrative officer.
Los Angeles’ approval is required because the property, owned by San Fernando, lies within the Los Angeles city limits. The City Council’s Intergovernmental Relations Committee, hearing no opposition, recommended approval of the project Wednesday.
San Fernando has agreed to landscape the site “in response to concerns over the unsightly appearance of the property,” said Keith Comrie, Los Angeles’ administrative officer.
Construction is scheduled to begin in June, with completion expected in December, 1989.
