Local News in Brief : Skinhead Gets Probation
The purported leader of the neo-Nazi Reich Skins youth gang was sentenced Wednesday to three years’ probation for what authorities said was a racially motivated attack on a Latino teen-ager.
Michael Casey Martin, 18, of Chatsworth, also was sentenced by San Fernando Superior Court Judge Dana Senit Henry to 259 days in County Jail, which he has already served, and to a four-year prison sentence, which was suspended.
The sentencing followed a March 16 plea bargain in which Martin pleaded no contest to one count of assault in the Oct. 7 attack on a Granada Hills teen-ager.
Under the terms of his probation, Martin is prohibited from having racist literature in his possession and from associating with members of any white-supremacist group. He may be searched at any time without a warrant, Deputy Dist. Atty. Myron L. Jenkins said.
Police said they identified Martin last fall as the leader of the youth gang, whose members are known for their shaved heads, tattoos, black boots and leather jackets.
