Share

A former aide to Councilwoman Joy Picus pleaded guilty to stealing $3,100 from an elderly constituent who had sought her assistance in donating the money in memory of his late wife.

Carlotta Z. Olguin, 39, pleaded guilty to a single felony grand theft charge at her arraignment before Superior Court Judge David Horowitz.

Olguin, whose duties for Picus included being a liaison to senior citizens in the councilwoman’s western San Fernando Valley district, was allowed to remain free on her own recognizance pending sentencing May 25.

As part of a plea bargain, Olguin will not be sent to state prison, Deputy Dist. Atty. Ed Feldman said. Instead, she will be placed on probation and may have to serve some County Jail time.

Shortly after the charge was filed against her in February, Olguin paid back the victim, Jack Newman, 76, his $3,100 plus interest, Feldman said.
