Jurors began deliberations in the manslaughter trial of Bradley Page, a former college student charged with bludgeoning his girlfriend to death on a jogging date in the Oakland hills. Roberta (Bibi) Lee, a 21-year-old UC Berkeley honor student, disappeared Nov. 4, 1986. Page participated in a five-week publicity campaign searching for Lee before her body was uncovered in a shallow grave in Redwood Regional Park. Prosecutor Kenneth Burr contended that Page smashed Lee in the head with a rock, crushing her skull, after the couple began to argue. Page maintained that his confession to Oakland police was a “fantasy scenario” concocted under intense pressure by investigators during 16-hours of questioning.
