Arizona Gov. Rose Mofford, freed from the threat of a recall aimed at her predecessor, began filling empty slots in state government, but said she had not decided whether to seek a full term in 1990. Meanwhile, former Gov. Evan Mecham criticized Tuesday’s state Supreme Court decision canceling the recall election but declined immediate comment on his own plans. In a radio interview, Mecham said an appeal to the U.S. Supreme Court of the state court ruling is “a possibility that’s open to us.” There’s also been no decision on whether to appeal the Senate impeachment decision to the federal courts, he said.
