A House subcommittee chairman, declaring he would take no more “mush” from two Reagan Administration officials, abruptly ended a hearing on U.S. military base rights today and stormed out of the room.

During a testy session before his walkout, Rep. David R. Obey (D-Wis.) had lectured the officials on the alleged failure of America’s European allies to spend enough on European defense at a time when the United States faced severe budget pressures.

“I think you people are being taken for a ride,” he said. “My taxpayers have had it. They’ve had it up to here.”
