‘Max, My Love’
France, 1986, 94 minutes , 8 p.m . An aridly ironic triangle of a chimp who makes a chump out of a British diplomat when he wins the affections of his proper wife (Charlotte Rampling). Co-written by Bunuel collaborator Jean-Claude Carriere and directed by eroticist Nagisa Oshima, the film is an odd avowal to the sanctity of family even at the most ridiculous costs. A true hyena’s ass--exotic but nonetheless. . . .
