Local News in Brief : Countywide : Pet Hot Line Established to Aid Injured Animals
The Pet Crisis Hotline, a nationwide, 24-hour, pet-owner medical authorization service, has been established to ensure that lost animals receive needed medical treatment if harmed and are returned to their owners. A toll-free telephone line provides veterinarians with vital owner information, preauthorized billing amount and important pet data.
Hot line founder Elizabeth Miller of Newport Beach said she created the service after losing two pets.
“People who find an injured pet sometimes don’t seek immediate medical care because of concerns for financial responsibility,” Miller said. “But, a Pet Crisis Hotline tag frees the finder from worry or responsibility and veterinarians will not turn an injured pet away,” Miller said.
For an $18 enrollment fee and annual $6 renewal charge, subscribers receive a stainless-steel tag inscribed: “In a medical emergency, take me to the nearest vet. Payment is guaranteed. 24-Hour, Pet Crisis Hotline, (800) 876-7171, ID A-00000,” which attaches to a pet’s collar.
