Raiders Are Said to Be Discussing Trade With Redskins for Quarterback Schroeder
Has the Raiders’ search for a quarterback led to the Redskins’ Jay Schroeder?
The Redskins are reportedly talking to the Atlanta Falcons and the Raiders about a 3-way deal: Schroeder to the Raiders; the Raiders’ No. 1 pick, which is the sixth overall, to Atlanta, and Falcon tailback Gerald Riggs to Washington.
Another version has the Raiders dealing straight up with the Redskins, trading Marc Wilson, Bill Pickel and the No. 1 pick.
Schroeder, a former Bruin, was the Redskins’ starter for most of the last two seasons but slumped badly and lost his job to Doug Williams, who then led Washington to its Super Bowl victory. Behind him, the Redskins also have Mark Rypien, the former Washington State quarterback, whom they are high on.
A Raider official, speaking on the condition that he not be identified, said he knew of no offer. However, asked if the team would be interested in Schroeder, he said, “You’d have to be.”
