The State : Woman, 80, Gets Prison

Share

An 80-year-old woman has been sentenced to 16 months in state prison for violating her probation by hanging out with drug dealers and allowing her home to be used for drug selling. Alameda County Superior Court Judge Joseph Carson ignored a defense attorney’s pleas for leniency for Irene Wurzbach, who pleaded guilty in 1983 to keeping a house in Alameda where drugs were sold. She was placed on probation but violated that probation by keeping a house in Vallejo where similar activities took place and by refusing to allow police to search her home. Attorney Barry L. Morris argued that Wurzbach should not go to prison because of her age and ill health.
