Local News in Brief : Truck Hits Abutment, Burns; Driver Killed
A 32-year-old Sylmar man died Sunday when his pickup truck crashed into a bridge abutment and burst into flames, authorities said.
Leonard Paul Rivas was northbound on the San Diego Freeway near Rinaldi Street in Mission Hills about 12:20 a.m. when his car drifted to the left, California Highway Patrol Officer Monty Keifer said. It struck the abutment, then caught fire, he added.
Paramedics pronounced Rivas dead at the scene.
