A week before her attacker becomes a free man, a woman whose arms were chopped off by a rapist in California says she considered suicide because of the incident, but “I’d chicken out, and a part of me would feel like I can’t even do that right.” Mary Vincent, now 24 and living with her 18-month-old son, Luke, in a small town in the northwestern United States, told People magazine she is still traumatized by nightmares in which she relives the axe attack by Lawrence Singleton. Singleton, 60, served seven years of his 14-year sentence, but was chased from several towns by outraged citizens after being paroled about a year ago. He took refuge on the grounds of San Quentin Prison, where he has been living in a mobile home. He will be released from parole on Monday.
