Teachers in Argentina Continue Their Strike

BUENOS AIRES —
Argentina’s nationwide teachers strike went into its sixth week on Monday despite a mandatory arbitration order from the government.
Teachers showed up at many schools early in the morning, but instead of holding classes they debated the mandatory arbitration order from the Labor Ministry. The teachers union has been demanding a minimum wage of about $120 a month. President Raul Alfonsin’s government has offered about $80 a month.
The arbitration order requires the two sides to reach an agreement within 20 days.
