Former presidential spokesman Larry Speakes made a limited apology for his controversial new book, saying, “I have wronged President Reagan . . . I deeply regret it,” the Washington Post reported. A storm of criticism greeted Speakes’ revelation in “Speaking Out: Inside the Reagan White House,” that, as press secretary, he had made up quotes he attributed to Reagan. Addressing a Washington Post Book and Author Luncheon, Speakes also apologized for some unkind descriptions of people in the White House and the press corps by saying that “in some cases” he overstepped “the bounds of common decency.”
