Artesia : Van Horn Becomes Mayor
Councilman James A. Van Horn Jr. was selected mayor of the newly reorganized Artesia City Council. Van Horn, 64, was first elected to the five-member council in 1974.
Councilman Dennis R. Fellows, 45, was chosen mayor pro tem. Fellows also has been on the council since 1974.
The newest member of the council, William R. Stach, 34, was officially sworn in. Stach defeated longtime Councilwoman Gretchen A. Whitney in last week’s election.
Councilmen Ronald H. Oliver, who was mayor last year, and Robert J. Jamison, who both retained their seats in the election, were officially seated. Oliver has been on the council 14 years and Jamison has served 16 years.
