A 42-year-old man surrendered to sheriff’s deputies early Wednesday after barricading himself in his Campo home with three of his children, authorities said.

Sheriff’s deputies were called to the home in the 2100 block of Buckman Springs Drive about 11 a.m. Tuesday by the San Diego County Child Protection Service, which was investigating child molestation allegations against the man, spokeswoman Liz Foster said.

The man released three of his children, ages 6 through 11, and his wife, Foster said. But he remained in the house with three other children, a girl, 16, and two boys, 1 and 5.

“He indicated that he would not come out, that deputies would have to come and get him and the children, that he had nothing to lose,” Foster said, adding that he claimed to have weapons in the house.

Foster said the SWAT team was called in about 4:30 p.m. Tuesday and negotiators repeatedly contacted the man by telephone.

Shortly before 1 a.m., Foster said, the man turned himself over to authorities. The children were not hurt.

Foster said the suspect was booked on suspicion of three charges of child abuse, two of child molestation, one of unlawful sex with a minor and one of delaying officers. Bail was set at $52,500.
