Local News in Brief : New Mayor Is Sworn In

Hugh T. (Bud) Smith, Avalon’s first directly elected mayor, was sworn into office this week, succeeding Mayor Irene Strobel, who had been elected by fellow council members.
Councilman Hal Host was elected mayor pro tempore. Two newly elected council members, Paul Puma and John Phillips, also were sworn in.
