Local News in Brief : Mitoma Named Mayor Pro Tem
The three-member Carson City Council majority that was reelected April 12 has filled the city’s top ceremonial positions--again appointing Kay Calas as mayor but naming a new mayor pro tempore, Michael Mitoma.
Acting at the first council meeting since their reelection, the majority chose Mitoma, who placed first in the balloting for council, to replace Vera Robles DeWitt, who also was reelected to the council, finishing third in the balloting. Calas, who had served as Carson mayor for a year, was chosen for another one-year term.
Councilwoman Sylvia Muise, who sought the defeat of the three during the election, voted against both selections. Muise’s ally, Councilman Tom Mills, was absent. Mills has missed all meetings since early January because of illness.
