Local News in Brief : Council Member Resigns
Janis K. Cohen, the former mayor of San Gabriel, resigned from the City Council on Thursday after three newly elected councilmen hired an interim city attorney and a consultant from outside the city and gave them sweeping powers to conduct investigations and audits.
The new members, who ran on a slow-growth slate and ousted three incumbents on April 12, had described the new appointees as members of a “transition team.”
In her letter of resignation, Cohen said she was “unable to work harmoniously” with the new council majority.
Before her resignation, Cohen accused the three of acting in secrecy before a Tuesday council meeting, when they announced the surprise appointments.
