13 Die as Rebels Raid Philippine Tree Farm

MANILA —
Communist guerrillas raided the tree farm of a major paper manufacturing company, sparking a gun battle that left 12 rebels and a civilian dead, a military spokesman said today.
Lt. Col. Edgardo Centeno said that about 40 rebels armed with machine guns and rocket launchers struck about 5 a.m. Wednesday at the Paper Industry Corp. of the Philippines farm in Agusan del Sur province, 570 miles south of Manila.
