Arthroscopic Surgery on Knee Sidelines UCLA’s Austin

Share

Linebacker Randy Austin of UCLA underwent arthroscopic surgery on his left knee this week and will miss the remainder of spring football practice.

Austin (6-2 1/2, 227), was listed No. 2 on the Bruin depth chart at inside linebacker. He was injured during practice last Thursday and underwent surgery Monday.

After earning The Times’ Valley Lineman of the Year honors in 1985 as a Canyon High senior, Austin redshirted his first year at UCLA. Last season he played mostly on special teams. It will be six weeks before he can begin running, but he is expected to be ready for fall drills. He began rehabilitation exercises Thursday.
