Selling the Boss

Over the years I have expressed the opinion that Bruce Springsteen is a minor rock ‘n’ roll figure whose popularity and success is the result of the astounding talent of public relations managers.

The publication by the Los Angeles Times of the Springsteen Special Advertising Supplement on April 20 should go far in convincing Springsteen’s fans that he is first and foremost a marketable commodity, much like the Toyota Grand Prix of Long Beach, which also warranted a Special Advertising Supplement.

The main difference that this long-time rock ‘n’ roll and auto racing fan can see is that the Grand Prix sounds better.
