General Automation has named Dennis H. Nystrom to the positions of vice chairman and chief operating officer of the Anaheim computer manufacturer. Nystrom, 48, a senior partner at a Detroit law firm, has been a General Automation director since 1979. He was the county executive’s chief of staff in 1983-86 in Wayne County, Mich. In his new post, Nystrom will oversee General Automation’s day-to-day operations. Leonard N. Mackenzie, chairman, president and chief executive, said he plans to concentrate on sales and marketing. The positions of vice chairman and chief operating officer have been vacant for several years. Mackenzie said the decision to appoint a vice chairman was prompted by the company’s recent growth. He said he expects the firm’s sales to grow 30% to 40% in 1988.
