Shotgunned Wedding

No doubt about it, the folks at Disney have got the pulse of today’s moviegoers. Witness the Americanization of “Return to Snowy River II,” which ends with hero Tom Burlinson and sweetheart Sigrid Thornton setting up housekeeping at Burlinson’s mountain cabin--without benefit of an “I do.” Kinda daring for 1891!

But . . . the version that’s showing Down Under--where the story’s set and where filming took place--wraps with the duo’s white wedding. So how come our version doesn’t include an invitation to the wedding?

“The changes were based on the feeling that American audiences are more sophisticated,” said a Disney rep, “and therefore could draw their own conclusions.”
