4.1% Water Rate Hike Affects Several Cities in Southeast Area
San Gabriel Valley Water Co., based in El Monte, has increased its water rates by 4.1% to offset the rising costs of buying power from the Southern California Edison Co. and Southern California Gas Co.
The rate increase, approved by the state Public Utilities Commission, affects 42,580 customers in Arcadia, Baldwin Park, El Monte, City of Industry, Irwindale, Hacienda Heights, La Puente, Montebello, Monterey Park, Pico Rivera, Rosemead, San Gabriel, Santa Fe Springs, South El Monte and Whittier.
It will increase the monthly water bill of a resident who uses 2,000 cubic feet of water from $16.39 to $17.05, except in a portion of Hacienda Heights where residents pay higher rates because the water must be pumped to a higher elevation. The Hacienda Heights rate for 2,000 cubic feet of water will climb from $18.22 a month to $18.78.
