Relief pitcher Mitch Williams of the Texas Rangers was suspended for two games by the American League for triggering a brawl in a game against the Boston Red Sox April 8.
Williams has asked for an appeal. The suspension will be held in abeyance, pending the results of Friday’s hearing in New York. Williams, a 23-year-old left-hander, exchanged punches with Boston’s Marty Barrett after Barrett had scored in the ninth inning of the game in question.
