Walnut : Smith Chosen as Mayor
Despite changes caused by retirements and the April 12 election, the City Council was in perfect agreement last week in its choice for a new mayor. Drexel L. Smith, who was first elected to the council in 1982, was chosen in a unanimous vote.
Smith, formerly mayor pro tem, succeeds retired Mayor Harvey Holden. The retirements of Holden and Councilman Joe H. Hahn became effective last Wednesday when the new council members were sworn in.
Charles D. Richardson, who was also first elected to the council six years ago, was unanimously elected mayor pro tem.
