A 48-year-old Los Angeles man was arrested early Wednesday and accused of trying to rob a Huntington Beach woman at gunpoint, police said.
Kenneth Russell Davis of the Echo Park district of Los Angeles, who told police he is an unemployed firefighter, was arrested on suspicion of attempted armed robbery, driving with a concealed weapon and carrying a loaded firearm, Police Sgt. R. Jenkins said.
Davis was taken to City Jail, where he was being held in lieu of $50,000 bail, Jenkins said.
According to Jenkins, the woman, whose name was not released, was entering her home just after midnight, when a man brandishing a revolver approached her and tried to take her purse. The woman screamed and resisted the man, who then drove away in a car parked nearby.
The woman described the man's car to police, who spotted it in the area and arrested its driver, identified later as Davis, Jenkins said.
