BMWs

In response to Alan Bell’s article concerning the controversial film “Colors” (“ ‘Colors’: A Monochromatic View of Gang Life in Los Angeles,” Op-Ed Page, April 18), I would like to extend his metaphor to a 16-year-old drug trafficker with three BMWs as opposed to an upstanding career individual with only one.

As a 17-year-old with a good job and past and future formal education, I can attest to the honor of honestly made money and the derivative personal integrity. It would be much more comforting if we, regardless of background, had that in mind rather than a relentless desire to park $50,000 in the driveway.

Unfortunately, too many of us, when acting in principle or otherwise, submit to temptation. I am ashamed to say that my BMW is running just fine.
