A 20-year-old San Diego man who allegedly pointed a loaded shotgun at an undercover officer was taken into custody Thursday after a police SWAT action in East San Diego.

Police identified the man as Michael Lee Swain of the 4000 block of Poplar Street.

According to Lt. Lou Scanlon, the incident began at about 9:45 a.m. when two undercover officers were flagged down at 40th and Redwood streets by two men who attempted to sell them rock cocaine.

After the suspects produced the cocaine, the officers showed their badges and attempted to arrest them. A struggle ensued, and, while one of the suspects was pursued on foot, the other ran into a house and reappeared with a shotgun.

Police could not confirm whether the suspect fired, but Scanlon said he did point the weapon at an officer, who then shot at the suspect.

A SWAT team was called in, and, after 30 minutes of trying to contact the occupants of the house by bullhorn, the team stormed the house shortly after noon.

Inside the house, police found a weapon and drug paraphernalia used for the manufacture of rock cocaine, Scanlon said.

One block away on Thorn Street, police said, they arrested Swain and 24-year-old Mark Dumas. Dumas was held on suspicion of violating parole and of giving false information to a police officer, Scanlon said.

Both men were being held in County Jail. The amount of their bail was unavailable.
