An Alpine man was arrested Sunday after a live dynamite bomb and four additional sticks of dynamite were found in his car, sheriff’s deputies said.

Deputies who recognized Richard Lynn Estabrooke, 33, a former county parolee, stopped his car on Alpine Boulevard near the Alpine Liquor Store about 8 p.m. because he had two outstanding felony warrants. In searching Estabrooke’s car, the deputies found the explosives.

Estabrooke was arrested on suspicion of possession of destructive devices, a billy club, a controlled substance and a hypodermic needle, in addition to the outstanding warrants, which were for drug-related charges.

Denied bail, Estabrooke was being held Monday at the County Jail downtown.

Sheriff’s Sgt. Conrad Grayson said the dynamite had been stolen from a storage bunker in Ramona. More than 300 pounds of explosives were stolen from the site about two months ago, Grayson said. The department is searching for the rest of the explosives.
