Softball : Huntington Beach Scores on Wild Pitch to Win, 1-0

Huntington Beach High School scored on a wild pitch in the bottom of the eighth inning Tuesday to upset Fountain Valley, 1-0, in a Sunset League game at Huntington Beach.

Pam Fogg (10-11) got the victory for Huntington Beach (11-10, 2-5) and freshman Rae Rice (14-4) took the loss for Fountain Valley (19-5-1, 5-1-1).

Stacy Moore singled and later scored on a wild pitch with Tara Snyder at the plate with one out.

In another Sunset League game:

Ocean View 2, Marina 1 (8 innings)--Marla Pickard had a leadoff single in the bottom of the eighth and was sacrificed to second, and Shannon Poulson hit an RBI single to lift Ocean View (13-10, 4-3) to the win. Ocean View pitcher Cindy Schneller (9-8) had eight strikeouts. Mindy Burgess hit a home run for Marina (10-10, 3-4).

In the Century League:

Canyon 10, El Modena 3--Krissy Kyriazis had 2 hits, 2 RBIs and 2 runs scored to lead host Canyon (14-7-1, 5-1-1). Nikki Lewis also had 2 hits and scored 2 runs. Katie Cramer (11-4) pitched six innings, giving up just one earned run, for the victory.

Villa Park 7, Santa Ana Valley 1--Suzie Barnett, Shelia Tell and Steph Wills each had two hits to lead Villa Park (11-13, 5-2) at Santa Ana Valley. Barnett and Wills each drove in a run. Munique Hernandez (7-6) threw a 6-hitter, striking out 4, for the victory.

In the Empire League:

Los Alamitos 3, Loara 0--Christine Dolan (2-4) threw a 1-hitter, striking out 7, to lead host Los Alamitos (10-9, 4-3). Dana Chipollone had an RBI single in the fourth and Cara Dane had an RBI single in the sixth for the Griffins. Los Alamitos’ third run scored on an error.

In the Freeway League:

Buena Park 3, Fullerton 1--Tricia Bokaro broke a scoreless tie in the top of the fifth with a two-run double for Buena Park at Fullerton. Shannon Akau threw a 6-hitter and struck out 6 to get the victory. Felicia Benjiman had an RBI single for Buena Park. Sabrina Welch was 3 for 3, including an RBI single, for Fullerton (7-12, 3-3).

Sunny Hills 1, Sonora 0--Amy Huett (5-1 in league) threw a 4-hitter and had 12 strikeouts to lead host Sunny Hills (10-14, 5-1). Erin McKenney had a one-out RBI double in the fourth for Sunny Hills.

In the Garden Grove League:

Kennedy 3, Garden Grove 1--Cheryl Longeway (16-3) struck out 8 to lead Kennedy (19-5, 11-0) at Garden Grove. Longeway also drove in a run. Tania Antolin had an RBI single for Garden Grove (12-13, 7-4).

La Quinta 5, Los Amigos 2--K.C. Jenkins had two hits and an RBI for visiting La Quinta (13-7, 9-2).

In the Orange League:

Valencia 6, Brea-Olinda 0--Michele Granger threw a one-hitter, striking out 20, for Valencia (17-6, 4-3) at Brea-Olinda. The only hit Granger (16-3) gave up was to Tricia Barr, who singled off shortstop Robin Rassmussen’s glove in the fifth inning. Amanda Chadwick and Julie Cunningham each had 2 hits and 2 RBIs for Valencia.

In the Sunrise League:

Rosary 17, Bishop Conaty 0--Maryanne Martin was 3 for 3 with 2 doubles, 2 runs scored and 4 RBIs to lead Rosary (14-6, 7-0) at Lions Field in Fullerton. The game was called after five innings because of the mercy rule. Suzie Canney (7-3) struck out 9 and threw a 2-hitter for the victory.
