Bell : Town Meeting Plan Studied

Share

If a recently authorized study goes the way Mayor George Mirabel hopes, Bell may implement a citywide series of town meetings, a concept similar to the old New England style of local government.

The City Council this week authorized city staff members to study the cost and the equipment needed to conduct a series of meetings in different locations in the city, said Denise Underwood, assistant city clerk.

The town meeting concept, first suggested by Mirabel, would entice residents who otherwise do not normally attend City Council meetings to voice their opinions directly to their city leaders, Underwood said.

Underwood said results of the study could be ready to present to the council by the end of the month and, if the concept is approved, the town meetings could begin by late summer.
