Local News in Brief : Walk to Ventura Cross to Mark Catholic Feast
A 25-minute pilgrimage to the cross on the hill behind San Buenaventura Mission in Ventura will be held at 7:30 a.m. on Saturday.
The procession celebrates the Roman Catholic Church’s Triumph of the Cross, the feast day honoring the discovery of what were thought to be pieces of the Holy Cross in Jerusalem.
Since 1982, on the first Saturday of May, more than 100 people have come to Grant Park to celebrate Mass at the cross, which was erected in 1912. This year’s procession will be led by Bishop Patrick Ziemann of the Archdiocese of Santa Barbara and Monsignor Patrick O’Brien.
Chairs will be set up in the park for a bilingual Mass at 8 a.m. Participants should meet in front of the mission at 211 E. Main St.
