Local News in Brief : Tax Charges Dismissed

Share

Misdemeanor charges were dismissed Thursday against a Hollywood Hills woman whose husband and four other defendants are accused of bilking the state Department of Transportation out of $1 million in connection with the cleanup of the Willco dump in Lynwood.

Patricia Ann Dunlap had been accused, along with her husband, William, of failing to pay income taxes in 1983 and 1984. In exchange for having her case dismissed, she waived her privilege against testifying against her husband if she is called as a witness, according to her attorney, Edward A. Rucker.

William Dunlap and his co-defendants are awaiting trial on charges stemming from an alleged pact made in August, 1983, which prosecutors say enabled a contractor, Andrew Papac & Sons of South El Monte, to reduce the cost of disposing of hazardous waste from the Willco site while concealing the savings from state officials.
