* 1/2TOTO. "The Seventh One." Columbia. There are moments here when Toto steps out of the corporate rock board room, doffs its pinstripes and creates something that breathes with honest emotion. But for the most part, the band continues to hew to formulas with rote professionalism, delivering the sort of generic, melodically sweetened rock that puts Toto firmly in league with bands like Starship, Journey, Boston and the reconstituted Yes, all of which sound as if they've bought their sound off a rack at Brooks Brothers. Why bother sweating out passion and originality when it's so much simpler to follow the corporate code and dress for success?
