Irvine police said Sunday that they are searching for a man who shot two employees at a company from which he was fired.

The two men who were shot escaped with only minor injuries, said police Sgt. Jim Potts.

Police declined to identify the suspected gunman, saying only that he is a Vietnamese whose last address was in Fountain Valley. Potts said the man fled after the shooting.

The shootings occurred about 3:30 p.m. Saturday at the Xidex Data Disc company, 1 Marconi, Potts said. He said the fired employee angrily was discussing his situation with another Xidex employee, Raghau Duggal, 26, outside the building.

“The fired employee pulled a gun, but Duggal hit either the gun or the man enough to keep the shot from killing him,” Potts said. “The gun had been aimed at Duggal’s head, but the shot only grazed his head, and he refused (hospital) treatment.”

Duggal ran inside the Xidex building, and the gunman fired several more shots at him, Potts said. One of the shots--possibly a ricochet--grazed the leg of another employee, Gabriel Ruiz, 20. Ruiz was treated at Saddleback Hospital and released, Potts said.
