Times Staff Writer

Childhelp USA supporters never take a break. And that’s, no doubt, why Childhelp has become the largest national, nonprofit organization concerned in the research, treatment and prevention of child abuse.

Recently Southern California co-founders Sara O’Meara and Yvonne Fedderson were in Washington where they staged national news conferences, held two personal briefings with President Reagan (Nancy Reagan is honorary Childhelp campaign chairman) and brought more than 150 child abuse prevention professionals and government representatives together for press conferences on topics ranging from satanic and ritualistic child abuse to abuse hot lines. Childhelp also announced its hope to do a national study with UC Irvine on the impact of AIDS on sexually abused children.

They had the support of Childhelp Ambassadors Efrem Zimbalist Jr., Cheryl Ladd and Mike Connors as well as U.S. Sens. Pete Wilson (R-Calif.) and Dennis DeConcini (D-Ariz.). Letting no grass grow under their feet, the Los Angeles Chapter of Childhelp U.S.A. team is geared to the “It’s a Small World” Woman of the World Awards Luncheon next Thursday at the Century Plaza Ballroom.
