Coach Jacques Demers of the Detroit Red Wings said his team might still be in the Stanley Cup playoffs if forward Bob Probert and five other players had stayed sober.

Probert, a recovering alcoholic, was one of several players who the coach said were out drinking in Edmonton, Canada, well past curfew, on the eve of what Demers called “our biggest game of the season.”

Said Probert: “Not me. You sure you got the right guy?”

The Red Wings lost Wednesday night to the Oilers, 8-4, in Game 5 of the Campbell Conference finals and were eliminated from the playoffs.
